Back in Nam !

Well we are back in Vietnam now and what a come down from Thailand, gutted!
Its chinese new year here now and the country has gone crazy, one week of drinking and racing mopeds(accidents everywhere).
We escaped to Saigon for a couple of days and planned to do some tours like normal tourists do.My god do people really do these tours?? Our one and only attempt at being a tourist ended the minute our first tour ended. We went to the chu chi tunnels and it started with a dodgy english speaking guide who repeated everyword he said and gave comedy a bad name. As we sat like proper tourists we cringed for the man and laughed our way through it, it was painfull.Anyway talk about boring, we stopped at a spacka laquer factory on the way where all the agent orange victims made some amazing laquer ware which they sold to the public. Exciting stuff!!!
As many tours were not running because of TET( C, new year) we gave up being tourists and headed back home to Vung Tau.

The great escape !!! 10/12/08

Higher, higher, yes higher .The higher we flew the better the feeling, watching Ho Chi Ming fade away into a speck felt so good. Next stop Thailand, yes, we are buzzing now thinking of the place we both love and miss so much.
Three hours later we are in kao san road, the rush, the stalls, the smiling, the wasted people all around us,the most amazing food smells.WE LOVE IT.
Annabel, erin clare and me, were 4 peaple looking for a good night out.well we got that, we met up with our very good friends Pav and Vicks and had a really good night,VERY DRUNK.more good times.
Next was koh tao,the trip down to chumpon on the coach took us about 7 hours, a zanex helped the journey along quite nicely. Feeling knackered when we arrived at the boat port at 6 am was tough but we chilled out on the concrete floor and played shithead while waiting for the boat.
Arriving on koh tao at 10 am we got a taxi and went straight to o.k view resort.(where i used to work). It was good to see Kerry(we worked together/good friend) again so we proceded to get wasted. After many days doing a lot of drinking we went sailing with our friend sasha and girlfriend on his boat,it was an awsome day ,excellent weather, more beer and scipios jamaican woodbines...scipio being my brother from another mother!
After one week on koh tao we decided to head for the other side of thailand to an island called koh phayam which is still quite untouched, but first we had to stay in ranong for one night to catch the early morning boat to the island. we stayed at a hotel situated near natural hot springs which was superb, one of the best baths i've ever had. Not to sure about the people doing there clothes washing in it though.
Finally arrived on the island the next day after a two hour boat trip which was very nice. we got motorbike taxis to the other side of the island to aow ya beach and after a couple of hours searching for bungalows we ended up at the first resort we tried. sods law.
The island was great, no cars , no tuk tuks just mopeds and no electric in the day time just in the evening by generator which was great!!! Just what Thailand was like many years ago.It is good to know that there are places still left like that..Days of chilling out by the beach, swimming, frisby, lots of reading etc,etc watching the amazing coloured fishing boats, chatting to the locals,,, just what the doctor ordered. me and Annabel rented a motorbike and explored the island which took about three hours, found a lovely beach though, which is where we will stay next time we visit this lovely island.
It was Erins time to leave us and head home to aus, which was sad and then Claire left us the next day which was sad again. But until next time guys...
After 4-5 days on the island it was time to leave and head for Phuket to meet up with Annabels family. A quick speedboat ride to the mainland then a six hour coach trip to the island of Phuket which was a major shock coming from koh phayam.
We arrived at a very nice hotel where we were staying with the family and checked in to HEAVEN,electric, bath, hot water, t.v, clean beds with no bedbugs, annabel got eaten half alive by them from our mattress in phay am.They didn't touch me,thank god.LUCKY. We had a kettle, coffee etc, all the things we take for granted, you don't realise how much you really miss these things until you go without.
The complex of hotels turned out to be its own little village with shuttle buses running from hotel to hotel to golf course to beach etc,you get the picture right!
We had such a good time it was great to meet all of Annabels family in a neutral place and get to know them.We had lots of beach time/games/meals and basically some quality time together.
Annabels mum and uncle tim arranged an amazing boat trip to the other islands including koh phi phi which was amazing and such a good day out. snorkelling, eating etc. very nice!!
Claire came and joined us for a few days and kipped on our sofa (sometimes) which added to all the fun.
xmas day on the beach is such a great feeling i love it, its just not natural for us brits. We had a great xmas dinner that night, yes we had turkey as well and went home to our room very drunk to awake on boxing day with that out of body hung over nether drinking again feeling.
It was that night we all went to Phuket town and watched a lady boys show of dancing and singing, very good boob jobs i must say .The name of the show was Simons cabaret and if your ever in Phuket then go and see it for a laugh, why not!
Sadly the 28 th came and it was time to leave this hotel and luxerys of life, and head for Bangkok, after deciding that going back to koh tao will work out too expensive for us.very sad i had no proper goodbyes to friends but until next time..chock dee khrap!
It was very sad saying goodbye to Annabels family at the airport, but we did end it with one last meal...a K.F.C ( perfect) it was a good holiday!
Are flight was at 11 pm we were knackered, falling asleep on airport chairs, arses hanging out and farting away until boarding started , got on the plane and tried to sleep but fuck i hate flying, even more so at night. Annabel was asleep in minutes, great.
It turned out with me shitting myself the whole flight as the turbulence was so rough and bouncy, even Annabel woke up a little scared which made me feel a tiny bit better :)
Arrived back at the same hotel as before when the journey began in kao sang road in the early hours of the morning, after a few night caps it was good night from us until late the next day.
Shopping heaven! Bangkok is really such a shopping heaven, luckily we had a low baggage weight for the flight back to Vietnam so that saved us a few quid :) we just done some small shopping then it was another early night. So tired now from it all we are sleeping like logs.
Well its new years eve and can we get a taxi to our friends house, can we fuck, all the taxi drivers just laughed and said "to busy,no".After a while we got a crazy tuk tuk driver who agreed to take us and after a very fast/ scarey ride to Pav and Vicks we got there-just-shaking,happy,ready to start new year with very good friends...
A brilliant new years night with Pav and Vicks and family,it was perfect, great food by the way and a cool family to both of you.
We left about 7 am i think, can't really remember and got a taxi back to our hotel. We started to have a couple of more drinks when the first breakfast people came down.HAPPY NEW YEAR.
